History of Rudhall Manor
Rudhall Manor has an interesting history. It was largely built by the Rudhall family in the early 15th century although the stunning turret on the northwest gable of the house dates from the 18th century.
In the mid 17th century the Westphalings married into the Rudhall family and held the property until about 1840. One of the Westphalings, a naval officer, knew Admiral Lord Nelson well and Nelson spent so much time at Rudhall Manor that there is a room named after him in the west wing.
The house was acquired after 1830 by Alexander Baring, later the first Lord Ashburton, and the house has had a number of notable owners since including Sir Peter Scott and Sir John Harvey-Jones.
